HYDERABAD, FEB.1. A writ petition has been filed in the Andhra Pradesh High Court by the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), challenging the reconstitution of the B.K. Somasekhara Commission of Inquiry, alleging `bias' against the judge. The commission is inquiring into Yeleru land compensation scam. Arguments in the writ petition will be heard on Friday, a Bench of the court said on Tuesday. The Bench, comprising Justice B. Sudershan Reddy and Justice C.V.Ramulu, was dealing with the petition filed by Srihari, TDP general secretary, and former Minister, Ashok Gajapati Raju. The petitioners challenged the powers of the State Government in reconstituting the commission after doing away with it. They complained more of attitude of Justice Somasekhara while dealing with `witnesses'. Counsel appearing for the petitioners said that when an MLA from the Congress party did not appear on the day he was asked to, next date was given, but when the Leader of the Opposition sought leave to appear on another date his counsel was pulled up. This showed how the TDP was discriminated against, he alleged. The petitioners sought stay of further proceedings.
Notice issued
The Bench directed the issuance of notices to the commission and posted the matter for Friday.
