Woman gets life term for killing boy

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI, FEB. 1. A Delhi court today sentenced a woman to life imprisonment for killing a ten-year-old boy who she thought was a hindrance in the way of her extra-marital relationship with his father.

The accused, Sheila, according to the post-mortem report, had inflicted 13 stab injuries on the body of the victim, Sunil.

According to the prosecution, Sheila and the victim's father, Puran Singh, worked together at Lodi Hotel, adjacent to Oberoi Hotel in South Delhi.

Puran was also an accused in the case. However, the Additional Sessions Judge, S.N. Dhingra, acquitted him as the prosecution failed to prove his complicity in the crime. Sentencing Sheila under Sections 302 (murder), 207 (claiming property without right) and 120-B (conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code, Mr. Dhingra said: "The prosecution has been able to prove the case against the accused beyond all reasonable doubts.''

On the day of the incident on June 7, 2000, the guilty came to the one-room residence of Puran Singh in the servant quarters of Oberoi Hotel, asked the step-brother of Sunil, who was with him at that time, to fetch water for her and then finding the victim alone stabbed him several times killing him on the spot.

In the meanwhile, the stepbrother retuned and saw, through a hole in the window of the room, Sheila stab Sunil. The stepbrother, Kapil, proved clinching evidence in proving the case against the accused.
