KOZHIKODE, FEB. 1. The Kozhikode District Cooperative Bank has drawn up a Rs.50-lakh development package for Kozhikode Medical College Hospital (MCH) as part of the 100th anniversary celebration of the cooperative sector in the country. Addressing a news conference here today, the bank, M. Mehaboob, the vice-president, Manayath Chandran, and the Cooperative Society Joint Registrar, C. Janardharan, said the proposals include roofing the premises of the Institute of Maternal and Child Health (IMCH) attached to MCH, providing sanitation facilities and supplying tables in the labour rooms. Shelters for bystanders at MCH wards will also be constructed. The package also includes the renovation of the general medicine wards, 8 and 21, providing of 50 wheel chairs, supporting of the cardio-thoracic unit and cancer ward, Mr. Mehaboob said. He said the bank would fund the project even if the budget crossed Rs.50 lakhs. The Uranlungal Labour Cooperative Society will be entrusted with the construction works. The project is expected to be completed by June 30, 2005. The bank has contributed Rs.3 lakhs to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund for the tsunami victims in Kerala. It has also mobilised a fund of Rs.4 lakhs from a day's salary of its employees for the same purpose. The Minister for Cooperation, M.V. Raghavan, will inaugurate the centenary celebrations at Jaya Auditorium here on February 5.
