Fishermen

plan march

KOCHI, FEB. 1. Fishermen will take out a Secretariat march on February 8 under the banner of Kerala Swatantra Matsya Thozhilali Federation to protest against the move to import fish from Thailand. Their other demands included speeding up of tsunami-rehabilitation work and preventing diversion of funds meant for those affected by the tsunami, T. Peter of the federation said.

Programme for schoolchildren

The Centre for Science in Society of Cusat will conduct a Mid-Summer Science Talent Development Programme (STDP) for school children from April 5 to May 21. There will be two batches for upper primary and high school students. For more details contact Ph: 2575039.

Global meet

The first Global SME 2 SME meet in the State, organised by the Alumni Society of AOTS, will be inaugurated by the Minister for Fisheries, Dominic Presentation, on February 8 at Hotel Abad Plaza. SFI stir

The SFI will organise an agitation demanding reopening of the Men's Hostel of the Government Law College here. The hostel was closed in 1999 for renovation. It is yet to be opened despite the new structure being inaugurated in 2001, said Shajahan, secretary of the SFI unit committee.

One killed

A pedestrian was fatally knocked down by a mini lorry in the bypass near the Ernakulam Medical Centre. The police said that Satyan (66) of Karthika, Kuttikattukara, Eloor, died on the spot. The accident took place at 7 p.m. today.

Extended

The Indian Airlines has extended its Family Ticket scheme and Business Class Companion Offer `J' Smart scheme till July 31, according to a press release today.

Hindi seminar

A national seminar in Hindi on issues in aquatic biodiversity was held at the Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) today. Commodore M.K. Murthy, chairman and managing director of the Cochin Shipyard, inaugurated the programme.
