`Open CBI court'

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, FEB. 1 . The CBI court that had been allotted for Thiruvananthapuram by the Centre two years ago has remained a non-starter because of the State Government's neglect, the CPI Advocates' Branch, Vanchiyoor, has said. As the State Government did not have any financial commitments in this regard, immediate steps should be taken to open the court, the advocates demanded. Thiruvananthapuram is the only capital city without a CBI court, they said.

Memorial lecture

K. Kasturirangan, former Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation and Member of Parliament, will deliver the V.K. Krishna Menon memorial lecture on `Science, Technology, Environment and Social Change' here on February 5. The lecture has been arranged by the Bodhananda Research Foundation for Management and Leadership Studies.

Treatment for Catholicos

The Catholicos of the East, Baselios Mar Thoma Mathews II, will reach Santhigiri Ashram on Wednesday. He will be at the Santhigiri Sidha Medical College for a fortnight's treatment and rest, a press release issued by the Ashram said.

NCC team to be honoured

The NCC Republic Day contingent of Kerala and Lakshadweep NCC Directorate reached the city on Tuesday after participating in the Republic Day parade and competitions at New Delhi. The cadets will be honoured with medals at a function to be held at Thycaud Guest House on Thursday, in which the Education Minister, E.T. Mohammed Basheer, will participate.

Funds for music college

The Government will allot funds for the beautification of Sri Swati Tirunal Music College, the Education Minister, E. T. Mohammed Basheer, said. He was speaking at a function organised here to felicitate the students who had won prizes at the inter-university competition. The Government was also considering the setting up of a music museum and a modern studio with electronic recording facilities in the college, he said.

Exhibition

A 15-day khadi and village products' exhibition and workshops is being conducted at Neyyattinkara municipal grounds from February 1 to 15, as part of the birth centenary celebrations of the late Gandhian and freedom fighter, G. Ramachandran. Over 25 khadi and village industries organisations and 50 khadi stalls have been arranged at the exhibition, which is being organised by Madhavimandiram Lokaseva Trust.

Model exam

The Centre for Career Development Studies (CCDS) will conduct a model exam on April 24 for those appearing for the Civil Services preliminary general studies examination in May. Those interested should send in an application along with a cheque/draft for Rs.110 in the name of CCDS to the Director, CCDS, GPO lane, Thiruvananthapuram before February 28.
