By Our Staff Reporter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, FEB. 1. A 36-year-old motorcyclist was seriously injured after he was hit by a private bus near Overbridge Junction here around 5.30 p.m. today.

According to Medical College Hospital sources, the motorcyclist has been identified as Pappachan, a native of Kattakada in the district. He has been admitted to the hospital.

According to witnesses, the accident took place when the motorcyclist who was coming from Thampanoor side suddenly applied brakes. The private bus that was coming behind hit the motorcycle in the rear and dragged it for a couple of yards before coming to a halt.

Over-speeding by KSRTC and private buses as well as two-wheelers has led to spurt in accidents in the capital. The new traffic arrangements introduced in Overbridge-Ayurveda College stretch on the advice of District Traffic Advisory Committee have also led to confusion among road users at the busy Overbridge Junction, especially during the peak hours.

Drug peddling

The Excise Department has arrested two persons on the charge of peddling marijuana. The accused were identified as Usha (35) and Soman (41). The Circle Inspector, Excise, B. They were produced before the court and remanded to 14 days in judicial custody.
