Seven killed in road accidents

BANGALORE, FEB. 1. Seven persons died in road accidents reported in Bangalore on Monday and Tuesday.

The police said Rajaram, a retired Indian Telephone Industries employee, who was riding pillion on a motorcycle, was killed when a van hit the vehicle near Nanda theatre in Jayanagar traffic police station limits on Tuesday.

Rajaram (60), the police said, was going to a temple at Sajjan Rao Circle and his son-in-law was riding the motorcycle. The accident occurred around 4.30 a.m. when Rajaram's son-in-law slowed down the vehicle as he approached a speed breaker. Rajaram was rushed to a private hospital, where he died.

Freak accident

In a freak accident, Mastan (37), who was driving a truck carrying autorickshaws, was crushed to death under his vehicle at Laggere in Peenya police station limits on Monday night. Mastan had stopped the truck when he found an electrical line in front of the vehicle. After he got out of the vehicle, it started moving and he was crushed to death, the police said.

Car hits lorry

P. Raghuramaiah (48) was killed when the car by which he was travelling hit a lorry parked on Graphite India Road at Mahadevapura in K.R. Puram traffic police station limits on Monday night. The victim was admitted to a private hospital, where he died.

Francis (45), who was riding a motorcycle, was killed when the vehicle hit a median on Graphite India Road on Monday night. Srinivas, who was riding pillion, has been admitted to a private hospital.

Pedestrians die

A pedestrian, Suryanarayana (35) of K.P. Agrahara, was killed when he was run over by a lorry on Bannerghatta Road on Tuesday afternoon. The Madivala traffic police have registered a case.

Appayappa (18) of Nandini Layout was killed when a motorcycle hit him on the Outer Ring Road in Nandini Layout on Monday.

The police have seized the motorcycle and are searching for the driver.

A 40-year-old man was killed when a vehicle hit him near Manohar Estate on the Pune-Bangalore National Highway in Peenya Traffic Police Station limits.

The identity of the victim is yet to be ascertained.

Three arrested

The Hennur police have arrested three persons on charges of stealing vehicles and selling them. They have recovered two cars and a van.

Chain snatched

A gold chain worth Rs. 25,000 was snatched from a woman in Canara Bank Colony, Nagarabhavi, in Chandra Layout police station limits on Monday.
