HYDERABAD, FEB.1. An autorickshaw driver, Abdul Waheed (33), who was accused of raping an Intermediate student four years ago, was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Fifth Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge, P. Prameela Devi, here on Monday. Another accused in the case, Iqbal Khan, escaped while the trial of the case was on, a press release said. A native of West Godavari district, the girl came to the city to pursue higher studies. On being asked to bring original certificates, she went to Secunderabad Railway Station to reach her native village, but was forced to wait there since she missed the train. The accused, Waheed and Khan, befriended her saying they would provide her shelter for the night. They took her to a room in Falaknuma and raped her. The next morning, the girl lodged a complaint with the Nampally police station. Inspector, K. Chakrapani, investigated the case, while the Additional Public Prosecutor, D. Vara Lakshmi, conducted prosecution.
