dies in mishap An employee of Vazir Sultan Tobacco company, K. Narsimha Reddy (46), died when a vehicle hit the scooter he was riding near the RTC crossroads on Monday. Narsimha Reddy sustained serious head injuries. Initially, he was rushed to Gandhi Hospital and later shifted to Yashoda Hospital where he died while undergoing treatment.

Cheated

An unidentified woman allegedly cheated a private firm employee, Ch. Srihari. The woman, accompanied by two men, came to Srihari's office saying she had small gold biscuits and offered to sell them for Rs. 5,000. Srihari picked up two of the 12 pieces and showed the same to a goldsmith who confirmed that they were made of gold. He paid Rs. 5,000 to the woman. But, subsequently he found that all the metal pieces were made of brass and not gold.

Two youngsters, who allegedly resorted to thefts, were arrested by the Petbashirabad police on Tuesday. Stolen property worth Rs. 9 lakhs, including seven colour televisions, two Maruti vans and seven two-wheelers, were recovered from the arrested -- P. Pratap (20) and P. Choudhary (19)-- the Sub-Inspector, K. Srinath Reddy, said.

A native of Guntur town, Pratap was earlier arrested on the charge of lifting nearly 30 two-wheelers. He was out on bail in August, 2004. Pratap's family recently shifted to Kompally on Hyderabad outskirts. There, Pratap came into contact with Choudhary. The duo allegedly committed a series of offences.
