Letters to the Editor
Sir, The news of General Joginder Jaswant Singh taking over as the new Army Chief is heartening in that he is the first Sikh officer to adorn this high post. The Sikh community known for its valour, sincerity and loyalty to the country richly deserves this honour.
Tharcius S. Fernando,
Sir, Congratulations to Gen. Singh. But I do not understand why the media found it necessary to highlight that he is the first Sikh officer to become the Army Chief. Gen. Singh becoming the Army Chief proves that in this great nation of ours, anybody with the right qualifications can occupy the highest office in any service, irrespective of caste or creed. It only reinforces the secular status of our country.
Col. (retd.) M.N.S. Thampi,
