Housing schemes for local bodies cleared

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM,
FEB. 2.
The Cabinet today cleared a loan-based housing scheme to be implemented by 30 select grama panchayats in Idukki, Kottayam, Wayanad, Pathanamthitta and Kollam districts.
Briefing reporters after the Cabinet briefing, the Chief Minister, Oommen Chandy, said the scheme would be implemented by the local bodies by availing loans from the district cooperative banks.
The Cabinet also sanctioned 18 posts to speed up land acquisition for the Ezhimala Naval Academy and decided to open an office for land acquisition in the area at the earliest. An office was also sanctioned for speeding up land acqusition for ensuring road connectivity to the Vallarpadam Container Transhipment Terminal.
Mr. Chandy said the Cabinet also decided to raise the pension being paid to World War II veterans from Rs. 300 to Rs. 400.
