KOLKATA, FEB. 2. The Indian cricket selectors meet here on Thursday to name the three squads for the Challenger series to be played in Mumbai from February 7 to 10. The five-member National senior selection committee, chaired by Kiran More, will meet at noon to name the players for India Seniors, India `A' and India `B.' A source close to the selection committee said that if Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly plays, he would be the automatic choice to lead India Seniors. ``In such a case, senior players like Rahul Dravid and Virender Sehwag are hot contenders to lead the other two teams,'' the source said. Apart from the current players in the national squad, players who have done well in domestic tournaments recently would also be considered for the series.
Apart from much-needed practice to the senior cricketers, the Challenger series would also help the selectors gauge the ability of fringe players ahead of the five-match one-day series against Pakistan to be held after the three-Test matches. PTI
