Bowling laws review to top ICC agenda

LONDON, FEB. 2. Overhaul of the laws on bowling actions would top the agenda when the ICC Chief Executives' Committee (CEC) meet at Melbourne on Thursday.

The Chief Executives of the ICC's 10 full member countries plus three representatives from the ICC's associate member countries will review recommendations for the revision of the ICC's bowling review process during its two-day meeting, an ICC release said here on Tuesday.

An ICC cricket committee chaired by Sunil Gavaskar in October last year had recommended revised degrees of flexing of arms after they found flaws in action of most of the bowlers on the basis of a research conducted by an experts' panel.

The cricket committee, made up of former international players, rigorously analysed the proposals before formulating a series of recommendations to be considered by this CEC meeting at which Gavaskar will also be present.

Other key issues

Other key issues to be discussed in the meeting would be related to ICC events including the format of the ICC Champions Trophy 2006, the venue for the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup 2006 and a progress report on the staging of the ICC Super Series in Australia in October 2005, the release said.

Discussions on anti-doping and anti-racism policies have reached a key stage and the CEC is likely to make recommendations to the ICC Board on both of these topics.

The agenda also includes papers on the review of the structure of cricket, the standard of pitches and 20-overs-a-side cricket. There will be a report on alternative options to the Duckworth/Lewis method of recalculating the target score in a rain-interrupted match. — PTI
