Partly cloudy sky with a minimum temperature of around 21 degree Celsius is likely on Thursday. At Waltair, the maximum temperature was 27.6 degrees C and the minimum 21.0 degree Celsius respectively on Wednesday. Humidity at 8.30 a.m. was 61 per cent and at 5.30 p.m. was 67 per cent. Rainfall up to 8.30 a.m. was 16.6 mm.

At airport, the maximum and minimum temperatures were 29.6 degree Celsius and 20.6 degree Celsius respectively. Humidity at 8.30 a.m. was 54 per cent and at 5.30 p.m. was 54 per cent. Rainfall up to 8.30 a.m. was 11.6 mm. The maximum temperature at the Dolphin's Nose was 28.2 degree Celsius and minimum 19.6 degree Celsius. Humidity at 8.30 a.m. was 69 per cent. Rainfall up to 8.30 a.m. was 25.1 mm.

VMC meet

put off

The Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (VMC) General Council meeting, scheduled to be held on Friday to discuss the budget, has been postponed to February 11 due to unavoidable circumstances, according to a VMC release.

Golden jubilee

The golden jubilee of the Base Victualling Yard of the Navy was celebrated on Wednesday. The yard was established in February 1955 to procure and supply ration and clothes to Naval ships and establishments based in Visakhapatnam. The Chief Staff Officer (Logistics, Administration, Personnel) of ENC, Commodore N.K. Jha, the chief guest for the celebrations, said that the prompt and dedicated action by the Yard in providing materials for tsunami-relief operations of the ENC was widely appreciated.

Talent contest

The ICFAI National College will conduct its annual inter-collegiate talent meet, `Intelligentsia-2004', for degree and engineering colleges. The prelims and finals of essay writing, elocution and quiz have been completed and the highlight of the show will be the personality contest, `Mr. and Ms. Future Manager' to select the best boy and girl with the right business acumen, the principal of the college, G. Union elections

The Ferro Scap Nigam Workers Union has urged the Commissioner of Labour at Hyderabad to conduct verification elections to determine the majority union in the company for recognition immediately. The last verification was conducted in November-2002 and the verification would help avoid unfair labour practices being encouraged in the organisation, the president of the union, Padi Thrinadha Rao, said.

Alumni meet

Tsunami relief

Group C employees of the Income Tax Department here contributed their one-day salary for tsunami relief fund. Members of the Income Tax Employees' Federation handed over the first instalment of Rs.18,970 to the Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Prashant Gupta.
