An acknowledgement form in lieu of the form submitted should be obtained. The dates for handing over are February 12, 13, 19, 20, 26 and 27 between 10 a.m. and 5.45 p.m.

Penal action

Any attempt to include the names of people who are not part of the family or trying to get a family card for a fictitious address or providing false information in the application would attract punishment under the provisions of the Essential Commodities Act of 1955, the Collector warned.

Application forms are being issued free of cost by the Government and there was no need to remit any fee for the same, the release added.

New cards

Mr. Kosalaraman on Wednesday told presspersons that all the 11, 39, 117 old family cards have been provided with inner papers and they would get new cards.

Out of the over 3,67,714 applications received for new cards, as many 2,79,650 applications were favourably recommended. 88,064 applications were rejected on various grounds. 22,141 applicants filed an appeal contesting the grounds of rejection.

Of the 2,74,015 new cards received by the administration from Chennai, 2,05,662 cards have been distributed so far.

The administration chose to delete as many as 80,709 cards because of the failure of the cardholders to appear for removing the "H" seal, failure to get inner sheets last year for the extended period of validity and also for having failed to turn up for a longer period for availing commodities.

The Government was actively considering a proposal to device ways and means to provide cards to those eligible persons out of the 80,709 cardholders whose cards have been invalidated.
