`Bhumi Pujan' for new Yamuna bridge held

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI, FEB. 2. The Delhi Chief Minister, Sheila Dikshit, today performed Bhumi Pujan of the eighth bridge over the Yamuna which would connect Shanti Van to Geeta Colony and also dedicated four flyovers by remote control from the Delhi Secretariat Auditorium.

The Chief Minister first went to Shanti Van where she participated in the Bhumi Pujan.

The ceremony involved the traditional smashing of coconuts to mark an auspicious start to the project. Incidentally, the foundation stone of this very flyover was laid a month prior to the last Delhi Assembly election and by now some of the tenders have also been allotted.

After the Bhumi Pujan, Ms. Dikshit went to Delhi Secretariat where she dedicated the four flyovers to the citizens of the Capital by pressing a remote control.

One of these flyovers -- the Brittania Chowk Flyover which has also been christened Chaudhury Brahm Parkash Setu after the first Chief Minister of Delhi -- is India's first flyover having noise and dust barriers.

The Khelgaon Marg Crossing Flyover which was also inaugurated today is also a first of its kind as it is India's first longest dual carriageway integral bridge having monolithic construction.

Of the other two flyovers by the B-Avenue Flyover is the sixth in a series of segmental construction, the Link Road and Rail Overhead Bridge between ITO Chungi and Noida More possesses eco-friendly flyash embankment construction.
