Letters to the Editor
Sir, The editorial, "Music musings" (Feb. 3) was appropriate. As one who has been attending the music season in Chennai for 15 years, I have seen a gradual decline in the standard of music. While the number of performers has increased, there has been a qualitative deterioration. Most musicians seem to be satisfied with the number of concerts they can pack into the season. There is need for a reappraisal of the scenario.
V. Murali,
Sir, Besides having acoustically endowed halls to sustain the rasikas' patronage of the music season, we also need to have sabhas all over the city. Most sabhas are concentrated in certain parts of Chennai. Of course, another significant aspect is the quality of canteens attached to the music sabhas that indeed sustain listeners' interest in the concerts of budding musicians.
S.S. Gangadharan,
