Four killed in three accidents

BELLARY, FEB. 3. Four persons were killed and five sustained injuries in three separate road accidents in the district over the past 24 hours.

Two persons, including a woman, died on the spot, and four were injured when they were knocked down by a lorry near second cross at Belagal Tanda in Bellary taluk on Thursday. According to police, the victims were agricultural labourers sitting by the side of the road waiting for the bus to go to Bellary city. The injured have been admitted to the Vijayanagar Institute of Medical Sciences hospital here.The Bellary (Rural) police have registered a case.

In another accident in Kurgodu, a four-year-old boy Ramu died after being hit by a lorry. The Kurgodu police have registered a case.

Surjeet Singh died on the spot and Ajaykumar sustained injuries when a lorry hit their scooter on National Highway 13 on the outskirts of Hospet. The Mariyammanahalli police have registered a case.

The Sandur police have registered a case against three persons, Gaddada Gavisiddappa, Doddabasappa, and Ramanna, all residents of Taranagar in Sandur taluk, on charges of evading royalty and extracting 1,350 tonnes of iron ore valued at Rs. 6.75 lakhs without valid documents.

An official of the Department of Mines and Geology had filed a complaint in this regard.

The police raided matka dens in Bellary city and seized stake amount of Rs. 22,088 and arrested 12 persons.

Five persons were arrested in Cowl Bazar area and Rs. 18,875 was seized from them. Similarly, seven persons were arrested in other parts of the district, according to a press release.
