BSNL extends Internet scheme to more areas

By Our Staff Reporter

TIRUNELVELI, FEB. 3. Buoyed by the overwhelming response for the recently introduced post-paid Internet scheme in Tirunelveli and Palayamkottai, the Tirunelveli Telecom District of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited has extended the scheme to every nook and corner of the district.

When the enticing and economical post-paid Internet scheme - `Accountless Internet Account' for the subscribers living in and around Tirunelveli (having the STD code of 0462), was introduced on January 10, over 500 subscribers registered their account under this scheme in the first 15 days. "This response is quite tremendous, which forced us to extend this facility to every BSNL subscriber in Tirunelveli Telecom District," the General Manager, BSNL, V. Raju, said here on Wednesday.

By extending post-paid Internet facility to all subscribers, the Tirunelveli Telecom District has become the first district in the whole of southern Tamil Nadu to offer such an economical service.

No deposit or formal application is needed to get this `revolutionary internet connection' since the subscribers themselves can get the connection by visiting the website of BSNL through their telephone, the number of which would be the `User ID'.

Browsing charges would be collected along with the telephone bill to make the payment easier.

"This is the most economical scheme as charges would be collected only for the duration of browsing. The Internet charges would be 10 paise per minute (excluding the service tax of 10.20 per cent) throughout the year.

A `local call' would be calculated for every 900 seconds of browsing on all Sundays, national holidays and for browsing between 10.30 p.m. and 7.30 a.m. while a `local call' would be calculated for 450 seconds of browsing time on weekdays and between 7.30 a.m. and 10.30 p.m. The facility would be extended to others parts of the district very soon," Mr. Raju said.

Aspirants should type `172222' in the dialup icon and `netone' in the user ID and password boxes and dial.

On getting the connection, the aspirant should enter the BSNL's website www.netonetvl.bsnl.co.in to register the information required and submit the same to get the system ready for connection.

Again type `172222' in the dialup icon, the telephone number (without STD code) in the user ID and the password to become the netizen.

For more information, the subscribers may contact Internet helpdesk (1957) and the Tirunelveli Internet Exchange at 2337198, 2337020 and 2322800, Mr. Raju said.
