By Our Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, FEB. 3. Power transmission and distribution system in Cherthala town is being strengthened by the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) at a cost of over Rs. 2.48 crores.

In a press release here today, the KSEB said the programme would be formally launched on Friday by the former Chief Minister A.K. Antony, at a function to be attended by the Electricity Minister, Aryadan Mohammed.

Under this programme, 11-kV transmission lines will be drawn over a stretch of 25 km and 23 new transformers will be installed. Also, the Cherthala section office of the KSEB will be computerised.

The KSEB said the programme would reduce the transmission and distribution loss in the area by six percentage points. The voltage position too will improve. Fifty per cent of the expenses on this programme will be borne by the Union Government. Half of the Central aid is in the form of grant and the rest is soft loan.
