KOCHI, FEB 3. The Malayatoor Kurisumudi, which was declared as an international pilgrim centre by the Vatican, will be formally inaugurated on February 13 by Pedro Lopez Quintana, the Apostolic Nuncio in India. Addressing mediapersons at his residence, the Auxilliary Bishop of the Ernakulam-Angamaly Archdiocese of the Syro-Malabar Church, Sebastian Edayentrath, said the inaugural event would be held at the base of the Kurisumudi shrine. A solemn procession will be taken out to the foot of Kurisumudy, from the Malayatoor Parish Church, he said. The Archbishop of the Syro-Malabar Church, Cardinal Varkey Vithayathil, will be the main celebrant at the concelebrated eucharist, which will prelude the inaugural function. The Chief Minister, Oommen Chandy, will preside over the inaugural function. Among those who will be present at the function are the Catholicos of the Orthodox Syrian Church, Baseliose Marthoma Mathews II; the Superior General of the Missionaries of Charity, Sister Nirmala; the Catholicos of the Jacobite Syrian Church, Baseliose Thomas I; the Metropolitan of the Syro-Malankara Church, Cyril Mar Baseliose; the Archbishop of Thiruvananthapuram, Soosa Pakiam; the Vice-Chancellor of the Sree Sankara University of Sanskrit, K.S. Radhakrishnan, and the former Judge of the Kerala High Court, P.K. Shamsudeen. Fr. Edayentrath said that around 40 lakh pilgrims visit the shrine annually.
