Hotel owners stage dharna

By Our Staff Correspondent

TUMKUR, FEB. 3. Owners and employees of hotels in Tumkur city staged a dharna protesting against what they described as "the Deputy Commissioner, M.B. Dyaberi's unilateral and autocratic decision to seal hotels that are in the process of linking their pipes with underground drainage."

At a meeting on Wednesday on the Union Government's Integrated Development of Small and Medium Towns Scheme (IDSMT), Mr. Dyaberi ordered sealing of hotels, and accordingly a number of hotels were sealed today. This triggered protests by the hoteliers.

The Tumkur unit of Hotels and Restaurants' Association organised the dharna. Its office-bearers, C.V. Mahadevaiah (president); T.S. Rajendra Prasad and U. Suresh Holla (vice-presidents); H. Srinivasa Hatvar, K. Radharkrishna Setty, C. Ranganath and Syed Gafar (secretaries); led the agitation.

The hoteliers told presspersons at the venue of the dharna that Mr. Dyaberi had acted in haste.
