CUDDAPAH, FEB. 3. The in-charge Proddatur Municipal Chairman, R. Prasada Reddy, on Thursday promised sanction of tap connections on payment of a fee of Rs. 1,200 each, in 12 monthly instalments of Rs. 100 to poor households. Addressing a press conference at Proddatur, he said poor families with more than a monthly income of Rs. 484, possessing white ration cards would be sanctioned tap connections. The beneficiaries should not owe any dues to the municipality and the distance from the water supply line must be within 30 ft., he said. Those fulfilling the criteria could apply along with a challan of Rs. 15 from Friday onwards, Mr. Prasada Reddy said. They must pay the first monthly instalment of Rs. 100 on being sanctioned a tap connection and must pay water tax of Rs. 60 along with their remaining 11 monthly instalments, he explained. The Municipal Council has the prerogative to either sanction or reject a connection, he said. In case any bogus ration card was detected, the tap connection as well as the card would be cancelled, the civic chief warned. He urged poor people to avail of the facility. Municipal councillors, P. Bhadramma and V. Sudhakar, also took part.
