COIMBATORE, FEB. 3. With the Centre sanctioning the hi-tech weaving park proposals for three places in the State, all the three projects are expected to be commissioned in 10-12 months. The parks will come up at Palladam, Komarapalayam and Andipatti. Works have already started for all the three, said industry sources. The Hi-Tech parks for the decentralised powerloom sector are planned under the Technology Upgradation Fund Scheme, Textile Centre Infrastructure Development Scheme and the Group Workshed Scheme. Each park will get a subsidy of about Rs. 20 crores (from the Centre and the State governments). They will generate in total 6,000 job opportunities and almost Rs. 900 crores of annual turnover. "Most of these items will be exported," said M. S. Mathivanan, Chairman of the Cauvery Hi-Tech Weaving Park (Komarapalayam). The Chairman of the Palladam Hi-Tech Weaving Park, M. Senthil Kumar, said that the Palladam park would come up on 65 acres and would have about 700 shuttleless looms (modernised looms) and seven sizing mills. "Land development works have commenced and we hope to commission the park by January 2006," he said. The machinery requirements would also be estimated and for those interested, bulk purchase would be done. Mr. Mathivanan said that nearly 40 acres was identified for the Komarapalayam and the Andipatti parks each. These would have totally 2,400 looms. While the Komarapalayam park was likely to be commissioned in October this year, the Andipatti one was expected to become operational in August. Apart from these three, another one was planned at Erode and the land identification was on. "There are plans to set up similar parks at all powerloom centres in the State depending on the response from the local stakeholders," M. Senthil Kumar added.
