TIRUMALA, FEB. 3. The ruling Congress Ministers -- M. Satyanarayana Rao and Dharmana Prasada Rao - on Thursday lashed out at the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) supremo, N. Chandrababu Naidu, for "unnecessarily levelling charges against the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy, in the Paritala Ravi's murder case." In a joint press conference, the Ministers came down heavily on Mr. Naidu for politicising the issue and termed the Opposition leaders' allegations as an effort to morally weaken Dr. Reddy. They alleged that Ravi was either directly or indirectly involved in more than 200 murder cases which in course of time made more enemies for him. Ravi was killed by his own rivals and that the Government had nothing to do with it, they contended. The Ministers appealed to Mr. Naidu to act as a responsible opposition leader and restrain himself from indulging in cheap politics. The fact that the State Government had immediately handed over the case to the CBI in accordance with the demand made by Mr. Naidu vividly reflected its commitment, they said. It was even ready to refer the case for a judicial inquiry, if the situation so warranted, they added. In sharp reaction to the political canvassing by TDP leaders against the State Government in New Delhi, the Ministers accused Mr. Naidu of trying to make a hill out of a mole. They appealed to the public not to have any misapprehensions about the functioning of the State Government, and said that the Chief Minister had towering leadership qualities.
Land distribution
Answering a question regarding the distribution of land to the poor all over the State, the Ministers brushed aside the allegations being made by the Opposition and said that it reflects their ignorance about the noble scheme aimed at uplifting the poor and the downtrodden. Continuing their attack, the Ministers accused the TDP of failing to distribute any land to the poor during its nine-year stint and said that the Congress Government, on the other hand, was all set to provide land pattas to more than 1,12,000 women. The Ministers felt that he was yet to digest the fact that people of the State had rejected his Government. Levelling baseless allegations against the functioning of the Government would not serve any purpose. Earlier, the Ministers participated in the `bhoomi pooja' of a guesthouse here.
