JAMSHEDPUR, FEB. 3. England colts fought back to reach 189 for four at close, but is still in dire straits, needing 134 runs to avoid the follow-on, after the second day's play in the third four-day `Test' against the Indian under-19 side at the Keenan Stadium here on Thursday. The home team declared its first innings closed at 472, six minutes after lunch. The day's highlight was a tremendous 211 by opener Cheteshwar Pujara and a quick 109 by vice-captain Manoj Tewari. On a good batting track, England began its innings with the openers Michael O'Shea and Joseph Denly settling down comfortably and playing their shots. Unlike the Indian side which won both of the first two `Tests', this side lacked quality bowlers and the overall fielding left a lot to be desired. O'Shea was the first to go, snared by leg-spinner Piyush Chawla for 46. He and Denly had added 81 runs in 16.3 overs. Denly played some handsome shots in his 81 before Chawla took a return a return catch to remove him. Earlier, Pujara and Tewari made use of the conditions to milk the hapless England attack despite its taking the second new ball after just two overs this morning. Saurashtra's Pujara, who is yet to play a Ranji game, scored his season's best, surpassing his previous top score of 202 versus Mumbai in the under-22 zonals. Bengal's Ranji all-rounder Tewari displayed his ability to score at will with an array of shots all around the wicket. The two put on 217 runs for the third wicket in 48 overs. Resuming at 162, Pujara stuck to playing straight and picking the right ball to hit. His innings spanned 485 minutes in which he played 352 balls and hit 26 boundaries.
