By Our Staff Reporter

VELLORE, FEB. 3. The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) will hold its first tele-convocation on March 5, with the President, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, delivering the convocation address in New Delhi and candidates receiving their degrees and diplomas in the regional centres.

While the convocation could be watched live on Doordarshan's Gyan Darshan channel, it would also be telecast at the IGNOU regional centres, K. Soundaravalli, Regional Director, IGNOU, Chennai told newspersons at the Voorhees College here, where she inaugurated a Study Centre.

Dr. Soundaravalli said IGNOU would provide uplinking facilities for beaming programmes through the recently launched Edusat (educational satellite) to all the 96 Study Centres in Tamil Nadu before the end of February. By then, IGNOU would switch over to the Broadband, she said.
