Natham gets a school building
By Our Staff Reporter
KUMBAKONAM,
FEB. 3.
People of Natham, near here, from where 14 of the deceased children in the July 16, 2004 fire accident at a private school at Kumbakonam hailed, were a happy lot today.
The Thanjavur Collector, M. Veera Shanmugha Moni, inaugurated a primary school building at the village today. Soon after the accident, a school was opened in the village in a temporary building. All-India Round Table's Tiruchi and Chennai branches took up the construction of a permanent school building at a cost of Rs. 5 lakhs. It was completed and opened.
The school building, with two classrooms, is one of the positive developments in the aftermath of the accident. The Collector said: "These parents considered the education of their children important.
Hence, against all odds, even though they were poor, they sent their wards to a school in the town. Now they can be happy that they got a school at Natham itself."
