CHENNAI, FEB. 3. An operation theatre with state-of-the-art equipment was inaugurated at Navasuja Sankara Nethralaya at Raja Annamalaipuram here on Thursday. Declaring open the facility, M.A.M. Ramaswamy, Pro-Chancellor of the Annamalai University, paid tributes to the hospital for its services to the public in the country as well as abroad. He announced a donation of Rs. 3 lakhs to Sankara Nethralaya. The Sankara Nethralaya Chairman, S.S. Badrinath, presented a shawl to the chief guest. K. Ravishankar, chief executive officer, said that about 1,300 out-patients were being treated and about 100 major and minor surgeries were being performed at Sankara Nethralaya daily. The Navasuja centre was started three years ago to meet the extra demand. The opening of the operation theatre would further improve delivery of quality eye care to the public. Ashok Rangarajan, head of the Navasuja Sankara Nethralaya, said the hospital has walk-in consultation, refraction clinic, contact lenses, computer vision clinic and specialised treatment facilities.
