CHENNAI, FEB. 3. For the Tamil Nadu Governor, S.S. Barnala, it was a meeting with a difference he hosted a tea party in honour of the National Cadet Corps contingent from Tamil Nadu which had returned home after participating in the Republic Day parade in the Capital. Posing for a brief group photo session on the lawns of the Raj Bhavan, the Governor, invited the young boys and girls to come out with their questions. A cadet asked: ``What do you think about Tamil Nadu State, Sir?'' Pat came the reply: Tamil Nadu was progressing in all fronts and in some areas it had achieved the number one status. "It is a beautiful State." Another cadet's question related to his second tenure in Tamil Nadu as the Governor. Mr. Barnala was cautious in his reply. "I like the Governorship when compared to any other posts. And I take great pride in representing Tamil Nadu for the second time." Another question elicited his opinion on the present day youth who are educated but jobless. Mr. Barnala replied: "You will have to work very hard to bring laurels to your family and to the State and the nation as a whole. Our times are over. You are the torch bearers of the nation and you should strive hard in the nation building activity." Asked about the most challenging and difficult situation for him as the Governor of Tamil Nadu, Mr. Barnala, after a pause, said, ``the most challenging times were when the Centre sought his opinion to dismiss the State Government during his previous tenure.'' He said "after thoroughly examining the pros and cons of the situation, I saw no reason for the State Government to be dismissed as there was fairly good law and order situation. Then, I resigned. The rest is history." P.P. Singh, Deputy Director General, NCC Directorate of Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry, and Andaman and Nicobar Islands, was also present. Commodore Singh thanked the Governor for his words of encouragement to the cadets. The cadets had won 13 gold medals, 6 silver and 9 bronze medals.
