Hindu Aikya Vedi's demand on houses for displaced people

By Our Staff Reporter

KOLLAM, FEB. 3. The president of the Hindu Aikya Vedi State unit, J. Sishupalan, said here today that his organisation would resist attempts being made by non-Hindu religious organisations to construct houses for the tsunami-affected people of Alapad.

At a press conference here today, Mr. Sishupalan said that when the Mata Amritanandamayi Mutt had volunteered to construct all the houses required at Alapad, there was no need for other voluntary organisations to come forward with the same gesture.

Mr. Sishupalan said that any attempt from the State Government to ignore the gesture of the Mutt would be seen by the Vedi as an attempt to insult the majority community. He said that the Vedi would not resist voluntary organisations of other religions to construct houses for victims from their respective communities.

But when it came to the victims from the majority community, the entire lot preferred houses offered by the Mutt, he said.
