The Kollam Superintendent of Police, S. Sreejith, presenting cash relief to those from Alapad at a function organised by the TKM College of Engineering at Kollam on Thursday.
KOLLAM, FEB. 3. Students of the TKM College of Engineering today organised a programme to honour the police officers and press photographers who were at different parts of the Kollam coast engaged in their respective duties when the tsunami struck. The police circle inspector, E.K. Sabu, was at Alapad engaged in evacuating the residents there when the tsumani struck. Mr. Sabu saved his life by clinging to a coconut palm, and in the process, the police team led by him saved five lives. The others in the team are the sub-inspector T. Krishnan and the constables Kamaluddeen, Raj Mohan and Santosh. At a function organised in this connection by the students, the Superintendent of Police, S. Sreejith, presented the trophies to the officials on behalf of the students. Six persons from Alapad who made a daring escape from the jaws of the tsunami were also honoured. Cash relief of Rs. 1,001 to each of them was also presented to them by Mr. Sreejith on behalf of the students. Mr. Sreejith said that Mr. Sabu and his team had brought pride to the police force. The college principal, M.C. Philipose, presided over the function.
