Manjanikkara perunal from Sunday

PATHANAMTHITTA, FEB. 3. The 73rd annual feast of the Syrian Patriarch, St Elias-III, will be celebrated at Mor Ignatius Diara at Manjanikkara near here on February 11 and 12.

Addressing a press conference at the Manjanikkara Diara today, the Mor Julious Kuriakose Metropolitan, Mor Dionysius Geevarghese Metropolitan and Mor Miletheus Youhanon Metropolitan said that the week-long festival as part of the feast will begin with the flag-hoisting ceremony at Omalloor Cross and at the St. Ignatius Diara Cathedral at Manjanikkara at 6.30 p.m. on February 6. Mor Julious Kuriakose would be chief celebrant at the flag-hoisting ceremony.

The Chief Minister, Oommen Chandy and the Water Resources Minister, Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, will distribute clothes to the poor on the diara premises on February 10 afternoon.

The metropolitans said that the diara committee would also hand over the fund mobilised by the church to the Chief Minister's Tsunami Relief Fund on the occasion.

The pilgrimage groups from different parts of the State would be accorded a reception at the Omalloor Cross on February 11 afternoon. A groups of 20 pilgrims from Germany would reach Manjanikkara later in the day.

A public meeting to mark the feast will also be held. The Catholicose Baselius Thomas-I will inaugurate the meeting. The Food and Civil Supplies Minister, Adoor Prakash, and the United Democratic Front convenor, P.P. Thankachan, will also address the meet.

The Catholicose will be the chief celebrant at the Holy Tri-mass to be held at the Diara Cathedral at 8 a.m. on February 12.

The annual feast will come to a close with the Holy Rasa.
