Goa Cabinet expanded

By Our Special Correspondent

PANAJI, FEB. 3. The Goa Governor, S.C. Jamir, today administered the oath of office and secrecy to six Ministers of the Pratapsinh Rane Government that came to power yesterday after the dismissal of the Manohar Parrikar Government. Among those sworn in were Isidore Fernandes and Pandurang Madkaikar.

Mr. Rane said the Government would not seek a separate vote of confidence — it would get the Budget passed during the Assembly session next month to prove its majority.

The Congress-led United Legislature Party (ULP) has 18 members in a House of 36, which has a Speaker from the BJP.

With today's expansion, the total strength of the Cabinet has gone up to eight.

The others sworn in were the Nationalist Congress Party member and former Chief Minister, Wilfred D'Souza, the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party member, Ramakrishna Dhavlikar, the chief of the Goa unit of the Congress and former Chief Minister, Luizinho Faleiro, and the Congress MLA, Dayanand Narvekar.

Mr. Madkaikar was the Minister for Transport in the Parrikar Government.
