By Our Staff Reporter

CHENNAI, FEB.3. The Madras University and the TamilNadu Dr. MGR Medical University will jointly offer a Masters and a Diploma programme in bioethics from the current academic year.

The curriculum was being worked out in accordance with the international guidelines, S.P. Thyagarajan, vice-chancellor, Madras University, has announced.

Bioethics was a multi-disciplinary area and required the resources of all disciplines. The Indian Medical Council has clear guidelines on research initiatives involving human subjects, which the students should be aware of. A teaching programme and a clearance test, hence, was necessary to apprise students of the ethical guidelines and bioethical formalities.
