PONDICHERRY, FEB. 3. The Life Insurance Corporation of India today handed over Rs. 51.18 lakhs to the Chief Minister, N. Rangasamy, towards educational assistance for children of poor families covered under the Jana Shree Bhima Yojana in the Union Territory. The regional manager (Chennai), K. Ramanan, presented the cheque bearing the amount to Mr. Rangasamy. The branch manager, A. Rajendran, and the assistant branch manager (Sales), Hemalatha Arjun, were present. The scheme would cover children in standard IX. Each of the 4,265 children benefiting under the scheme would get an assistance of Rs. 1,200, Ms. Hemalatha Arjun told newsmen. Under the Yojana, solatium would be provided to families following the death of the person insured under the scheme. The Pondicherry administration was paying the premium component of the policy.
