Protest against Nepal development

NEW DELHI, FEB. 3. The Anti-Monarchy Front, a group of students' organisations and social groups, held a demonstration in the Capital today protesting against the dismissal of a democratically elected government in Nepal by the Nepalese King Gyanendra.

The activist groups and students' organisations that took part in today's demonstration included the All India Nepalese Free Students Union, Akhil Bharatiya Nepali Vampanthi Yuva Morcha, All India Students Union, JNU Students' Union, and Forum for Democratic Initiatives.

They shouted pro-democracy slogans and demanded immediate installation of an elected Government in the Himalayan kingdom.

Some of the protestors were detained by the police and subsequently released. Meanwhile, the Communist Party of India (Marxist Leninist) has also strongly condemned the imposition of Emergency by King Gyanendra of Nepal and has supported the people's movement in Nepal for immediate restoration of democracy without any external intervention.

Similarly, Indian unit of the Nepali Janadhikar Suraksha Samiti has condemned the incident as one of the darkest day in the history of Nepal.

Stating that the organisation would hold rallies and mass meetings in several parts of India including Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Chandigarh in support of pro-democracy movements going in Nepal and other parts of the world.

It has also condemned Indian Government's lukewarm response to the entire episode.
