CHENNAI, FEB. 3. The Janata party president, Subramanian Swamy, has demanded the dismissal of the Goa Governor and restoration of the Parrikar Government. In a statement issued here today, he said: "It is shocking that the Governor of Goa chose to sack the Parrikar Government, which just a few hours earlier had won a vote of confidence on the floor of the Assembly. This atrocity on the Constitution flouts the Supreme Court seven Judge constitutional bench order delivered in the 1994 Bommai case. "Moreover in 1994, when the then Governor of Goa, Mr. Bhanu Prakash Singh dismissed a minority government refusing to resign, the Congress-led Government of Narasimha Rao got the President of India to remove the Governor from his post citing the unconstitutionality of the Governor's act. It was contended that Governors did not have that power. "I demand that the President of India, Dr. Kalam, dismiss the Goa Governor on the precedent set by the earlier Congress-led Government, and restore the Government of Mr. Parrikar."
