Partly cloudy

CHENNAI, FEB. 3. Friday will be partly cloudy with a possibility of light rain in some areas.

On Thursday, Nungambakkam recorded a maximum of 31.3 Degree Celsius and a minimum of 24. Meenambakkam registered a maximum of 30 Degrees and a minimum of 23. The Meenambakkam centre recorded a trace of rainfall and humidity was 69 per cent. The humidity at Nungambakkam was 70 per cent.

Power cut

Power supply will be suspended in parts of Panjetty, Sowcarpet, Porur, Anna Salai, Korattur, Padi, Foreshore Estate, M.K.B. Nagar, Kilpauk, Egmore and Mannady between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturday for maintenance work.

Title conferred

Centenarian N. Srinivasachariar, president of Ahobila Math Samskrita Vidya Abivardhini Sabha, West Mambalam, conferred the title `Aasiriya Ratnam' on M. Srinivasa Rao, former headmaster of Savitri Ammal Oriental Higher Secondary School, Mylapore on January 29 for his contribution to the cause of education.

Blood donation

Lions Club of Madras Velachery in association with Quaid-e-Millat Government College for Women, Anna Salai conducted a blood donation camp on Wednesday. Volunteers donated seventyeight units of blood at the camp.

Medical camp

SMILE (Selfless Movement Improving Life Everywhere) conducted a free medical camp in association with V. Ramakrishna Polytechnic College at Nandiambakkam on February 2. About 210 people were screened at the camp. About 130 persons donated blood.

SMILE volunteers also cleaned Arulmigu Vadapalani Andavar Temple in Vadapalani on Wednesday.

Competition

Agurchand Manmull Jain College will conduct an inter-school recitation competition on Bhaktamarastotra of Mantungacharya on February 6. Students from the pre-school level to college level may participate. Others may also participate in the competition in a separate category. For details contact 22316603.
