CHENNAI, FEB. 3. B. Dhesi, an RPF constable was given a cash reward by the Southern Railway today for rescuing a few people, who were caught in the waters, when the tsunami hit the coast. Mr. Dhesi, belonging to a fishing family, went to Devanampatnam in Cuddalore, on a holiday. He was on the beach, when the tsunami hit. On seeing four persons battling for life, he entered the waters and took them to a safer place. However, his aunt and his wife's nephew drowned in the waters. On hearing the news, the Cuddalore District Collector, Gagandeep Singh Bedi, sent a letter of appreciation to K.S. Balasubramanian, Inspector-General of Police, RPF, Southern Railway. Following this Mr. Balasubramanian recommended his name for a reward. The Southern Railway General Manager, Ramesh Chandra, presented Mr Dhesi with Rs 2,000 in cash.
