Stone-laying

for science museum

KOCHI, FEB. 3. The Chief Minister, Oommen Chandy, will lay the foundation stone for the proposed science museum at SRV School on February 5 at 9 a.m. The museum is modelled on Visweswarayya Science and Technology Museum, Bangalore. It is being constructed using Rs. 65 lakh donated by K. Kasturirangan, former ISRO chairman and an alumnus of SRV School. The three-storeyed building will feature models from ISRO, a library and an auditorium. Vayalar Ravi, Sebastian Paul and K. Chandran Pillai, MPs; C.M. Dinesh Mani, Kochi Mayor; and K.V. Thomas, MLA, will be present on the foundation laying ceremony.

Checking pollution

The Local Area Environmental Committee for Eloor-Edayar area, constituted by the State Pollution Control Board in accordance with the directives of the Supreme Court Monitoring Committee on environment, will hold a meeting of trade unions working in the Eloor-Edayar industrial belt at the Kerala State Productivity Council hall on February 5. K. Chandran Pillai, MP, will inaugurate the meeting at 10 a.m. The meeting is being convened to involve trade union leaders in checking the indiscriminate pollution of environment.

Examination postponed

The District Education Officer has postponed `Thaliru', a scholarship examination that was scheduled to be held at the Ernakulam Government Girls High School on February 5. The examination was jointly organised by State Children's Literature Institute and Vidyarangam Kala Vedi.

panel meet

A meeting of the advisory committee on mathematics of the Union Ministry for Science and Technology will be held at the Sophisticated Test and Instrumentation Centre of Cusat on February 7 and 8. The Vice-Chancellor of Cusat, P.K. Abdul Azis, and the adviser to Union Ministry for Science and Technology, B.D. Acharya, will address the inaugural session.
