Best NCC group

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, FEB. 3. The Kozhikode NCC Group has bagged the Chief Minister's banner for the best NCC Group. The Education Minister, E. T. Mohammed Basheer, presented the banner at a function held in the capital today. Colonel Georgy Joseph, Group Commander, Kozhikode NCC Group, received the banner. The Education Minister's rolling trophy for the best college and high school were presented to St. Thomas College, Thrissur and MNKM High School, Palakkad at the function.

Torch received

Prakriti Vandana Yatra, the curtain raiser event of the Prithvi Global Eco Meet 2005, that had begun from the bank of Chandragiri River on January 21, concluded at the Gandhi Park here today. At the function, noted poetess, Sugatha Kumari, received the torch from the Yatra captain, Raghava Prasad.

DYFI march

The DYFI has decided to organise a march to the Secretariat on February 8 demanding protection of the beaches and canals in Kovalam and action against the private hotel group for encroaching into the Samudra beach.

Donation

The State Bank of India has donated Rs. 50,0000 to the Maharani Sethu Parvathy Bayi Charitable Society in connection with the bank's community service banking programme, according to a release from the bank.

Meeting

A meeting of the Municipal Secretary Grade III rank holders would be held at the Theerthapadamandapom near East Fort at 11 a.m. on February 6, according to a release from the secretary, Municipal Secretary Grade III Rank Holders Association.

Seminar

The three-day all-India official language seminar being organised by the Food Corporation of India commenced here today. The Executive Director, FCI, Rajiv, inaugurated the seminar, which will deliberate on various aspects relating to the implementation of official language policy in the FCI offices.

Biography

"Bhavagayakan", the biography of noted Kathakali singer, Kalamandalam Haridas, written by N. P. Vijayakrishnan, would be released at a function at the Press Club here on February 5.

Visit

Major General K. N. Bhatt, AVSM, Additional Director General, and Colonel Commandant, Army Education Corps visited Sainik School, Kazhakuttom today. An impressive guard of honour was accorded to him by the school NCC contingent.

Course

The next batch of the Public Speaking course being organised by the YMCA Institute of Public Speaking will commence on February 7. There will be two batches on all working days from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. for working people and from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. for Plus Two, College going and Engineering students, Further details can be had from the YMCA office.
