Guntur
By Our Staff Reporter
GUNTUR, FEB. 3. The Guntur Municipal Corporation, in association with the city traffic police, has identified three categories of places for vendors to avoid traffic jams and ensure parking space for vehicles. At a meeting here on Thursday, the Municipal Commissioner, D. Rama Rao, said that Green, Amber and Red vending zones were identified by the police and the GMC jointly, which would be marked with paint so that unauthorized vendors were punished. The GMC and police would issue identity cards to the vendors so that they do not park their pushcarts in specified zones. Now an exercise would be taken up by the police and the GMC to earmark the parking lots for different kinds of vehicles on the main roads and by-lanes.
Speed lock
The Guntur police had also locked the speed of engines of all the autorickshaws plying in the city at 35 kmph so that they do not overtake other vehicles and resort to unethical competition for getting passengers. The steep gradient of road over bridge was posing problem for the autos so the speed limit was increased from stipulated 30 kmph to 35 kmph.
