The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded at Safdarjung on Thursday were 22 and 5.7 degrees Celsius, while Palam recorded 21.9 and 5.2 degrees Celsius respectively. While the maximum humidity recorded at Safdarjung and Palam was 86 and 94 per cent, the minimum was 32 and 35 per cent respectively.
Abducted kid rescued
According to the police, Sanjeev, son of Shish Pal, went missing while he was playing outside his house. The next morning, his parents received a call claiming that he had been kidnapped. The caller demanded Rs. 1 lakh as ransom. Acting on the complaint, the police registered a case of kidnapping. On a specific tip-off that Sanjeev had been spotted at Badkhal Pahari, the police raided the place and rescued him, but the culprits managed to give them the slip. Sanjeev disclosed that he was kidnapped by his tenants. Subsequently, the police arrested one of them, identified as Anil, a permanent resident of Bihar, from Ghaziabad. During interrogation, he revealed that he along with his accomplices asked Sanjeev to accompany them to a shop to buy some clothes and kidnapped him. They took him to Ballabhgarh railway station, from where they made the ransom calls to Sanjeev's parents. The police said efforts were on to arrest other accused in the case.
Motorists challaned
The drive has been launched to put a curb on use of vehicles for committing crime. During this exercise, the police are carrying out intensive checking of vehicles, especially those driving by young men at crowded places like Chandni Chowk, Fatehpuri, Khari Baoli, Kamla Nagar, Sadar Bazar, Azad Market, Library Road, Shastri Nagar and other such areas. The police said 1071 vehicles were checked, in which 536 vehicles were two- wheelers and 535 vehicles four-wheelers. Also, 20 two-wheelers were impounded for not having valid documents.
Arrested
Acting on a tip-off that some criminals would come to Lajpat Nagar in a Maruti van and motorcycles, the police laid a trap and arrested five of them. They were identified as Dharmalingum, R. Mugham, Jai Chandran, Sudarshan and Amitswamy. During interrogation, they confessed to their involvement in at least 58 cases. The police said the accused were from Coimbatore and Guntoor districts of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. The gang leader, Dharmalingum, revealed that he ran a travel agency at Vikaspuri.
