COIMBATORE, FEB. 3 . The Regional Office of the Textile Commissioner (ROTC) here will organise six to eight awareness programmes in this region in the next one month on the Technology Upgradation Fund Scheme (TUFS). Its Deputy Director, D. Bandopadhyay, said that with the relaxation in the TUFS norms more investments were expected and a number of textile mills that had 6,000 spindles were now going in for more spindleage. He pointed out that with effect from January 13, the capital ceiling for machinery had been increased from Rs. 60 lakhs to Rs. 1 crore for the decentralised powerloom sector under the 20 per cent Credit-Linked Capital Subsidy Scheme and the credit linked capital subsidy was increased from 12 per cent to 15 per cent for the small-scale textile and jute units under this scheme. He pointed out that under the group insurance scheme, so far more than 20,000 workers in the decentralised powerloom sector had been registered in Tamil Nadu and Kerala. It was planned to have at least 10,000 more registered by the end of this financial year from these States.
