Khadi fashion at its best

BANGALORE, FEB. 4. The revival of the Khadi industry in the past few years is seeing fashions from it at its varied best.

At Khadi India 2005, a two-week national-level Khadi and village industries exhibition organised by the Office of the Commissioner for Khadi and Village Industries, Mumbai, and the State Khadi and Village Industries Board, visitors can see the hand-spun and hand woven fabric taking on several forms.

Apart from the usual Khadi kurtas and short kurtas, trendy kurtas with katha work and kalamkari prints are available. Stoles are available in checkered prints to match these. Over 250 stalls have been put up at the exhibition. Hand-spun fabric from all the districts of the State is available.

There are 70 stalls exhibiting the designs of the village industry craftsman.

All household articles are available at the exhibition. There are dhurries and cushion covers, towels, bed sheets, yarns of hand-spun Khadi and raw silk.

The exhibition, which will go on till February 27, was inaugurated by the Chief Minister, N. Dharam Singh, here on Thursday.

There is a discount of 35 per cent on Khadi cotton, 20 per cent on silk cotton and 15 per cent on woollen Khadi.
