Police close Anara Gupta case

By Luv Puri

JAMMU, FEB. 4. The Jammu and Kashmir police today closed investigations in the Anara Gupta case. The decision comes after forensic tests confirmed last month that the person who acted in the pornographic video compact disc was not Ms. Anara Gupta.

Submitting a status report before a Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bench headed by the Chief Justice, S.N. Jha, and Justice S.K. Gupta, the Additional Advocate-General, Anil Sethi, said Ms. Anara was not involved in any offence. Hence, the police decided to close the case.

The forensic report of the CD by a Hyderabad-based laboratory had given Ms. Anara the clean chit. The tests confirmed that the pictures in the CD did not match with that of Ms. Anara.

Earlier, the J & K High Court had directed the Director-General of Police,Gopal Sharma, to file a personal affidavit regarding Ms. Anara's `illegal' confinement in a police cell from October 24 to November 4.

Five policemen, including a Superintendent and Deputy Superintendent were suspended in this connection last year.

The court fixed February 17 as the next date for hearing.

Ms. Anara was arrested along with cable operator, Narinder Kohli, in the case on November 4 last. She sued the police for Rs. 1 crore for slapping a ``false case'' on her and the High Court will hear the petition on February 17.
