Congo to source drugs from Ranbaxy

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI, FEB. 4. A high-power Congo delegation led by its Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ramazani Baya, is in India for shopping and sourcing huge supplies of pharmaceutical drugs and their formulations to meet its domestic demand.

Revealing this at an interactive session with the members of the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (Assocham), Mr. Baya said that negotiations in this connection were at an advance stage of finalisation with Ranbaxy Laboratories. Mr. Baya said a number of senior executives from Ranbaxy Laboratories and the visiting delegation from Congo had already met to negotiate the deal. However, he refused to divulge the volume and details of the negotiations. The Minister only said that the deal would be large enough to meet the domestic drug requirements of Congo at reasonably concessional rates.

He also said that apart from pharmaceuticals, the other areas for joint business collaborations that were offered to India by Congo included exploration of minerals and hydrocarbons as Congo was richly endowed with these sources of energy.
