BANGALORE, FEB. 4. Malur taluk in Kolar District, which was under the jurisdiction of the Bangalore Metropolitan Region Development Authority (BMRDA), has been removed from its purview, now that the BMRDA (Amendment) Bill, 2005 has been passed by both Houses of the Legislature. The Bill, approved in the Legislative Assembly on Thursday, was passed in the Legislative Council today, by a voice vote. That followed a brief discussion in which Basavaraj Bommai (Janata Dal-U) and his colleague, M.P. Nadagouda, and the Bharatiya Janata Party's V.S. Acharya and `Mukhyamantri' Chandru participated. Speakers said Malur's significance as a centre with potential for industrial development and proximity to Bangalore should be borne in mind, and the taluk should not lose out on comprehensive development by being so excluded.
