Highest polling in Chautala's Rori constituency

CHANDIGARH, FEB.4. The polling percentage for the 90 Haryana Assembly constituencies on Thursday was the second highest since the inception of the State on November 1,1966. The Chief Electoral Officer, Urvashi Gulati, said here today that 72.29 per cent of 1,26,57,879 electorate had exercised their franchise.

In the first elections to the Assembly in 1967, a record 72.65 per cent electors had cast their votes, she said.

Ms. Gulati said the highest polling of 88.01 per cent this time round was recorded in the Rori constituency, from where the Chief Minister, Om Prakash Chautala, is in the race, while the lowest of 47.96 per cent was recorded in Gurgaon. Narwana, another key constituency, which saw a battle royal between the Chief Minister and the Congress nominee, Randeep Singh Surjewala, who is the working president of the Haryana unit of the party, recorded a voter turn out of 87.34 per cent.

The voting percentage in other seats is as follows: Chhachhrauli 86.43, Darba Kalan 83.78, Bhattu Kalan 83.78, Sadhaura (SC) 81.96,Pai 81.88, Radaur (SC) 80.94, Pundri 79.89, Nilokheri 79.78, Uchana Kalan 79.69, Indri 79.53, Ghirai 79.50, Fatehabad 79.39, Adampur 79.24,Narnaud 78.93, Barwala 78.85, Safidon 78.82,Naraingarh 78.54.
